I love love love making playlists/mixes for friends and our parties and I also like sharing music to other people because it feels good that they enjoy what I recommended. I got a lot feedback from my friends here and in TUMBLR that they enjoyed my 2010 mixtape especially Phoenix's If I Ever Feel Better. Most people also ask me how or where do I get my music. So I'll enumerate the tedious ways on discovering new/great music.

1. I mostly get my stuff through music blogs I follow. The good thing about blogs is that they cater to numerous genres and you can pick a specific blog if you only want to listen to indie, hip hop or mainstream. For mainstream music, I subscribe to Music Is The Heart Of Our Soul & Ali's Blog in my Google Reader. For some indie music, check Pretty Much Amazing, Vinyl&Vodka and Indie Shuffle. And one of the best blogs that caters to both hip hop and indie, Pigeons And Planes.

2. I also get my music from featured music in television shows and movies. When I hear something great from an episode of Gossip Girl or Grey's Anatomy and I want to know what it is. I usually go to [info]musicontv. For movies, I usually download the soundtrack. Shows that have awesome music: Veronica Mars. 90210, GG, Grey's Anatomy & Skins.

3. I always find great music through fanmixes from LJ communities like Skins/Gossip Girl and those top (10/50/100) albums/songs lists like the ones made by Pitchfork. Fanmixes fascinate me because they contain songs that are perfectly related to the theme from the lyrics down to the art cover.

4. Lastly, from the best site ever, HYPE MACHINE! This site keeps track of music blogs and let's you listen to songs and discover new stuff. Although, they don't advertise it but you can actually download the tracks that you listened to by going to the original blog post. It's really easy! Follow me!

TIP: There is a nifty little trick to downloading music over the internet without shitty limewire. Type in your search engine "site: mediafire.com phoenix - wolfgang amadeus phoenix" et voila. You have access to download links.

Here are some songs I currently love.

Low Shoulder by Toro Y Moi
I am in love with this song. Listened to it around 10 times today. I found this track from a Skins ad (Pandora).
MF | Listen

Lust For Life by Girls
An adorable song that I also found from a Skins ad (Freddie). Catchy beat and lyrics.
MF | Listen

Under The Sheets by Ellie Goulding
She reminds me of a darker version of Little Boots with a mix of Florence + The Machine. I also love her cover of Passion Pit's Sleepyhead.
MF | Listen

Ecstasy by jj
This track is pure trippy. They toned down Lil Wayne's Lollipop and added some drug-induced lyrics which resulted to pure delight. They're quite similar to The xx.
"When I'm in the club
I'm always on a drug
If you get a hug
Guess what drug I'm on?
Ecstasy"
MF | Listen

Babies by Via Audio
It reminds me so much of Natasha Bedingfield's I Wanna Have Your Babies. The lyrics and the beat are just clever.
MF | Listen

Hey You (PPRR Dance Remix) by Pony Pony Run Run
Serious fun. I don't even know what to say. All I know is that they're from France and they sound really good.
MF | Listen

Dangers Not a Stranger (Diplo Remix) by Gucci Mane
This Diplo remix turned this song into something really good. I'm surprised that I actually liked this kind of hip hop song, the kind where you just want to chill.
MF | Listen

Lasso (Two Door Cinema Club Remix) by Phoenix
Phoenix and Metric songs always turn out to be exceptional once they've been mixed. Remixes can do miracles because this is not my favorite track in Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix but this mix makes it so much better.
MF |

BONUS:
Human Nature (Michael Jackson Cover) by Toro Y Moi
If you liked Low Shoulder, you'll enjoy this too.
MF | Listen

Cheers, everyone!

Fantastic film starring Carey Mulligan as Jenny, a very bright girl who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with the much older David ( Peter Sarsgaard). Prior to meeting him, Jenny was working hard at secondary school to ensure her admission to Oxford University. When she sees the lifestyle David can provide, one she never imagined could be hers, she's hooked and thoughts of Oxford are forgotten. Jenny goes from being a bright eyed school girl and a sophisticated young lady, all the way back to questioning if she really knows who she is at all.

Mulligan's character is so relatable, if I'm in her position I would probably be overwhelmed too. Imagine trip to Paris, going to parties, boyfriend lavishing you with gifts, etc. I really like the ending and I'm surprised that Peter Sarsgaard pulled off the British accent. One of my favorite scenes was when they visited Paris and they danced (I'm a sucker for that) and scene ended with this still.

"So, I went to read English books, and did my best to avoid the speccy, spotty fate that Helen had predicted for me. I probably looked as wide-eyed, fresh, and artless as any other student...But I wasn't. One of the boys I went out with, and they really were boys, once asked me to go to Paris with him. And I told him I'd love to, I was dying to see Paris...as if I'd never been."

"If there are two things America 2010 needs right now, it’s sunshine and optimism. And also angels good music."

This morning, I was so inspired by Lily Allen's Mr. Blue Sky so I decided to make a playlist of songs that makes me happy and that exudes positivism for all my hopes this year. So here's my present to all of you. Happy New Year! 2010, allons-y!

1. Mr. Blue Sky by Lily Allen
Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines
Brightly in the city
On the streets
Where once was pity
Mister blue sky
Is living here today

2. Walking On A Dream by Empire Of The Sun

Don’t stop just keep going on
I’m your shoulder lean upon
So come on deliver from inside
All we got is tonight that is right till first light

3. If I Ever Feel Better by Phoenix
If I ever feel better
Remind me to spend some good time with you

4. 5 Years Time by Noah And The Whale

And there’ll be sun sun sun
All over our bodies
And it was fun fun fun
When we were drinking
Oh there’ll be love love love
Wherever you go

5. Young Folks by The Kooks

It doesn't matter what you do
Who you were hanging with
We could stick around and see this night through

6. Runabout by Little Dragon

Go run about the streets like its a race
Go run About
Run About
With the perfect plan you play with what you can and run about

7. Move by CSS
You better get your move on (oh)
Or all the good ones will have gone
You better get your move on (oh)
Or all the good ones will have gone
You better get your move on

8. Yes by LMFAO
Everyday I see my dream...

9. Halo/Walking On Sunshine by Glee Cast

I'm walking on sunshine, whoa oh oh!
And don't it feel good!

I based them on how I'm excited to see them (in a way that I can't wait for the DL to finish and I can't wait to go home because I really need to watch this show) and how I'm satisfied after watching every episode (in a way that I talk about how good that episode is). Seeing that I watch a lot of shows, it's so hard to rank them because I really enjoy all of it.

1. Glee
2. True Blood
3. Skins Season 3
4. Misfits
5. Merlin
6. Gossip Girl
7. How I Met Your Mother
8. Grey's Anatomy
9. The Office
10. FlashForward

This list is inspired by this post but her list is so much better with all the screencaps and explanations.

I promised my friend that I would make a post about Robin Thicke. I can't get enough of this guy, he's too sexy. I've been a fan of his music since he was sporting that long locks in When I Get You Alone. He made an album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke under Star Trak and he cut his long hair and he really matured. That album was great but Something Else was average. His new record, Sex Therapy: The Experience is really good. When he sings, you just want to melt because his voice is that sexy.

My favorite tracks: Sexy Therapy, It's In The Morning Featuring Snoop Dogg, Meiple Featuring Jay-Z and Shakin' It 4 Daddy Featuring Nicki Minaj.

I'm so excited for this film. I really hope they show it here in the Philippines. If they don't , the 3 months of waiting for the DVD/BDrip will be agonizing.

Director: Rob Marshall
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren

NINE is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren). The film is directed by Rob Marshall (CHICAGO). The original 1982 Broadway production of NINE, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, won five Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Love Me If You Dare or Jeux D'Enfants is one of the most well-done romantic films I have seen. I wish I could understand French that well because at the last 10 minutes of the film my subtitles gave up on me. Julien and Sophie's love sprung from a game of truth or dare since they were kids and it went on until they were adults. It's such a twisted love story. I love that in the ending, the director made it like an open-ended question where in you can choose to interpret your own ending -- there's the happy ending and the one that is more realistic.

But what I really love is that cute boy Thibault Verhaeghe who played Julien. He's too adorable.
Julien à 8 ans: Friends are like eyeglasses. They make you look smart, but get scratched and then bore you. Luckily, sometimes, you get super cool glasses. Me... I've got Sophie!

I love the song, but the video not so much. There were some moments that Beyonce looked a bit uncomfortable. However, I really like the part where both of them danced. I just adore Lady GaGa! I just downloaded her new album, The Fame Monster and it sounds really good.

There are so many good albums coming out. I can't believe I missed this and Little Dragon's Machine Dreams. I'm jumping on the Miike Snow bandwagon. Oh why did I skim over this group's talent before? I'm familiar with the band's name because every blog mentions them, it's only now that I fully appreciate this bands' pure talent. Swedish music rules!

Last.fm lists similar artists: Passion Pit and Discovery. Both very good bands, but Miike Snow is quite different. Less drum machine and auto-tune. They remind me of an upbeat Bon Iver. Too good. I will play this on repeat.

P.S. Sometimes it's so hard to keep up with new music. Britney's 3 is average and repetitive. How did she get away with having "Peter, Paul & Mary" in the lyrics?

Au Revoir Simone is an electronic indie pop band from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. I discovered them through a remix of Friendly Fires' Paris, and I downloaded their album and I just fell in love with it.

Before, I never really paid attention to the victims of typhoons in the Philippines but when you are the victim of the current Typhoon Ondoy, you feel empathy for the past victims you've just ignored. I am still thankful, that my family and I are safe.

It was the scariest experience of my life. I thought the water would come up to the second floor. My mom and I were able to save some stuff like photographs, the appliances and some goods from my grandfather's store but everything else was flooded. My brother was stuck in Lasalle yesterday and he just came home today.

Photos here... )We spent the whole day cleaning our house. It's almost back to normal. I hope the classes resumes this Wednesday, I'm not in the mood to study.

Blood by The Middle East
They're from Townsville in Queensland, Australia. I really like this song, it's very folk. The guitars are awesome.

Love Song 2009 by Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele
Such a cute song. Kinda reminds of I'm Yours but of course that another level of greatness.

Beaches and Friends (Hey Champ Remix) by French Horn Rebellion
A chill song. Nowadays, I'm drifting to that kind of music, a bit dance-y but still relaxed. I suck at expressing what it sounds like but it's really good.

Lisztomania (Classixx Remix) by Phoenix
I really like Phoenix but the original version of Lisztomania I didn't like so much. So this remix really did me a favor. It made the song better for me.

Lights Out (Tepr Emo Remix) by Santogold
Awesome! Got this from Bryanboy.

A Fifth of Beethoven (Soulwax Remix) by Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band
Lovely twist on a classic. I love it so much even though there's a lack of lyrics.

To Kingdom Come is Passion Pit's new single. I love this song but I personally prefer Let Your Love Grow. The video, however, is really cute with all the birds flying in the background. I'm a sucker for blue skies, birds, balloons, buttons, cigarettes and lips. Weird but I find those fascinating.

Cheers!
